{"id":3342,"date":"2023-11-06T09:56:15","date_gmt":"2023-11-06T14:56:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.headlice.org\/comb\/?p=3342"},"modified":"2023-11-06T09:56:19","modified_gmt":"2023-11-06T14:56:19","slug":"european-parliaments-environment-committee-votes-on-draft-pesticides-reduction-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.headlice.org\/comb\/european-parliaments-environment-committee-votes-on-draft-pesticides-reduction-law\/","title":{"rendered":"European Parliament\u2019s environment committee votes on draft pesticides reduction law"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>On 24 October, members of the European Parliament\u2019s committee on environment, public health and food safety (ENVI) gave&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/news\/en\/press-room\/20231023IPR08130\/pesticides-meps-want-a-drastic-cut-in-use-of-chemical-pesticides\">the green light<\/a>&nbsp;to the draft proposal for a Sustainable Use of Pesticides Regulation (SUR), ensuring negotiations on a future EU-wide pesticides reduction law continue.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A majority of committee members voted in favour of the proposal for a legally-binding pesticides reduction law: 47 voted in favour, 37 against and two abstained. The proposal, put forward by the European Commission in June 2022, aims to reduce the use and risk of chemical pesticides in the EU by 50 percent by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the adopted proposal includes some improvements to the original text, EDC-Free Europe members have&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pan-europe.info\/press-releases\/2023\/10\/envi-committee-vote-pesticides-regulation-sur\">pointed out<\/a>&nbsp;it still falls short on key provisions to protect people\u2019s health and the environment.
